Choosing
your fireplace components:
View
our Expert Pages for the different styles or parts needed to build
your own individual design. We are happy to 'supply only' or 'supply
and fit' if required. Remember: Fireplaces are a difficult DIY
project, and purchases should only be made when you are completely
sure about the appliance and the installation procedure. For more
information visit Fit a Fire.com

Fireplace Interiors:
Decide
what fuel you are going to burn, gas, coal, logs, or just decorative.
Choose the interior accordingly. Make sure your flue is usable
and safe for its intended use.
|
|
|
Fireplace Hearths:
Choose
a specially made hearth according to the type of appliance and
fuel chosen.
For Gas fires: slate, marble, tiled, or stone, are acceptable.
For Coal or Logs: Always have heat plates installed, and the rest
of the hearth, cut and seamed to allow for expansion.
Never light a real fire on stone,
marble, slate or tiles. These materials are prone to explode with
heat, and may shower the area with dangerously hot particles.

Fireplace
Surrounds:
A surround adds a visual frame to your fireplace, and turns it
into a piece of furniture which becomes the focal point of your
room. Make sure your surround conforms to regulations concerning
distances from the fire face to combustible materials.

Fireplace
Accessories
Decide if any extra items are needed to complete the design or
package you have chosen.
eg: A fireplace hearth fitted flush with the floor will require
a fender before it can be legally commissioned.

Antique
Fireplaces and Spares
If you purchase an reclaimed fireplace from a reclamation yard,
make sure you get a receipt stating it is fit for its intended
purpose. We manufacture and supply all spare parts to restore
period and antique fireplaces, but the process is involved and
expensive. So take care when purchasing.

Gas
or Solid Fuel?
The choice of fuel you want to burn, is likely to be determined
by the type and condition of your chimney flue. This should be
tested and certified by a qualified expert. (It will be a legal
requirement from 2006 to produce these certificates when you want
to sell your house).
